Godox V1-N is the latest generation flash released by popular Chinese manufacturer. It features i-TTL auto flash for Nikon cameras and optical triggering with even illumination and a stable output. Using 2.4GHz wireless, you have an operating range of up to 100 meters. The major difference between this and most other speedlights, except Profoto A1, is the round fresnel head which offer some benefits over standard rectangular heads. The shape of the head produces a round beam, unlike the square beam produced by regular speedlight heads. With many of modifiers being round in shape, this helps to fill them more evenly.
The second benefit relates to the way light falls off at the edges of the beam. It is much more uniform than the rectangular fresnel heads found on most speedlights which leads to the fact that gradual falloff of the V1 offers a softer looking transition back into the non-lit areas of the image
Godox V1-N is a fully featured on-camera i-TTL (II) flash speedlite. It supports FEC, FEB, FE Lock, Rear Curtain Sync, Modeling Flash, Control with CameraÕs Menu Screen, etc. I-TTL mode helps you achieve a correct flash exposure even in complex light-changing environments. In i-TTL mode, camera and flash work together to calculate the correct exposure for the subject and the background. As with all of GodoxÕs units, this flash carries all the features we need and expect. The Godox wireless system is built in as a commander and a slave, HSS is possible with every brand Godox supports (Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji, Panasonic, Olympus so far), a modeling light and AF assist beam are present, and power is controllable from 1/1-1/256 in 1/10 stop increments.
Build quality is great. Godox like their competitors have seriously upped their game in terms of the plastics used. V1 seems to have significantly better build than previous models. While the body of the flash feels equally as well made as the V860-II, a few notable things have changed for the better. The power switch, swivel for the head, and hot-shoe lock (The V1 can be locked or unlocked from the hot-shoe with a simple button push and quarter turn of the locking mechanism rather than the endless turning of the locking rings on their old flashes) all feel much better built now.
In terms of size and weight, the V1 weighs slightly less than the V860II at 530g and is slightly bulkier thanks to the round head. The body of the unit is slightly thinner than its older brother, however, giving it an overall more compact feel. We must point that V1 speedlite requires Godox AK-R1 kit of modifiers to maximize its potential. Godox AK-R1 Accessory Kit for V1 contains magnetically-attached modifiers that maximize the capabilities of the head. The kit contains a snoot, four-way barndoors, and a honeycomb grid to narrow the lightÕs beam and selectively light your subject. Conversely, a near-180-degree dome, a wide lens, and a bounce card with a frame are provided to expand the beam. Finally, a filter set with three amber CT filters and one green fluorescent filter are also included.
